Does a NJ DUI show up on an employment background check?

I'm applying for a new job and the application asks if I had ever been convicted of a felony, misdemeanor or anything other than a minor traffic offense? I know in NJ that DUI is not a criminal charge. The job I'm applying for has nothing to do with driving.

In NJ DWI is not criminal and will not appear on a CCH or a normal background check. More and more employers are checking abstracts too and the DWI will be on there. The DWI is not a felony, misdemeanor or offense (disorderly persons, petty disorderly or municipal ordinance). But it certainly is more than a minor traffic offense. You can't get too much more major with traffic offenses. I cannot tell you how to respond but DWI is not a minor traffic offense. Choose wisely.

DWI is not a minor traffic offense, but "minor" is open to interpretation. You're going to have to use your judgment on this one.

It is not a minor traffic offense. While it may not show up on a criminal background check it is certainly discoverable via a mvc abstract. Your prospective emp, over may not take to kindly to being misled. If the job doesn't have anythi g to do with driving I would disclose it, it really shouldn't hurt you.

In New Jersey, Drunk Driving (DWI/DUI) is classified as a traffic offense. It is not a “criminal” offense – not a felony, or misdemeanor (known in NJ as “disorderly person” offenses). It is however, a serious (i.e. not a “minor”) traffic offense. It is the most serious traffic offense in New Jersey. Given application question, you must reveal the NJ DWI conviction.
