Are bb gun illegal in NYC?

A person can be charged with criminal possession of a weapon if they are in possession of a BB gun and have the intend of using it unlawfully against another person, which will depend on the circumstances at the time. Simply owning a BB gun may not be illegal, assuming it is just sitting in your home. But as a general matter, it is simply not a wise thing to own. What issues arise if you ship a BB gun from some other state is a more complicated question.
