You can call the police and ask them to file Harassment by Communication charges, but whether this is in fact legally harassment depends on the content of the messages. Show the police and see what they say.

It would be best to contact the police to alert them to the messages. If you feel his messages are true, or whether he states comments that place you or your children in harm of possibly bodily injury or death, the police may act accordingly. It will be up to the discretion of the police how to act, but it can't hurt to at least place a complaint with the police in case you take later action.
If the actions continue, there is always the possibility of seeing a Protection From Abuse order through the Court of Common Pleas for your county. This would force him to stop communicating with you except when it relates to the child (depending if he has any physical or legal custody of the child can depend how much communication is needed). If you seek a PFA is is recommended you hire an attorney to help you since it is a hearing and there are evidentiary matters involved which an attorney is trained best to handle.
Don't let his actions place you in fear. Call the police, and/or seek a PFA (a sort of restraining order) to prevent him contacting you. Don't delete the text messages, it may come in handy to the court (or your attorney).
