My boyfriend lives in the Dominican Republic. Is there any way that I can help him acquire a visa?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 2 years. I am a US citizen. He is a citizen of the Dominican Republic. I wanted to know if there was a way for me to request for him to come to the US without having to get married? I have heard about sponoring an immigrant, but I don't understand how that works.

Does he want to come to the US permanently or to visit? If it is to visit than he can apply for a B2 visitors visa. If he wants to come permanently than you can petition for him as your fiance (and then you would have to get married once he arrives) or marry him and petition him as your husband. There is no way to "sponsor an immigrant" as you say without having the required family relationship allowing you to petition for that person. Good Luck. Attorney Gagarin is right. You must get married, or intend to get married w/in 90 days of his arrival to enable him to stay. He can try for a tourist visa ... but has a slim chance of getting one.

No. He can apply for a visitor visa, however, and will need to prove to the satisfaction of the consular officer that he does not intend to immigrate.
