Do I have to file an actual eviction with the court?

I guess we "leased" one of our homes to this young couplke ( children of some acquaintances of ours) allowing them to just pay us month to month. it has been nearly 2years. No actual lease agreement. Things have deteriated as they have damaged the home with out repairing as they stated they would. Broken front windows, broke garage door & inoperatable now, others.. now they only senht us half of March, and nothing for april. they have not answered any of our calls or returned any. We would like to end this. W mailed and left a 3 day letter to either pay in full plus damages or to move out. No response. do we have to file an eviciton with the court?

It is in your best interest to file an eviction matter because then, any eviction obtained, is a court order. Violation of a court order amounts to contempt. You need to protect yourselves, and if these tenants are non-responsive, I don't see that you have any other choice but to file an eviction.

Yes you will need to file an eviction. There is no "self help" allowed here in Florida and as such that means you cannot change the locks, turn off the power, etc. Most counties do have simple eviction forms availible to help you through this process. Alternatively, a local real estate attorney can take care of this as well.
