My boyfriend assaulted me over a year ago and was never arressted. Two days ago the detectives came to my house looking for him.

I told the detectives that i no longer want him arressted and that i actually exaggerated the story quite a bit. They kind of shrugged their shoulders and left because my boyfriend was not home at the time. Are they going to come back? Is there anything i can do to cancel the report after a year and a half ??

I think you may be a bit disillusioned if you believe the detectives came around for an assault that was reported a year an a half ago. Is it possible that your boyfriend got himself mixed up with some other matters that they now like him for that. Discuss this with your boyfriend, if detectives are looking for him the best thing for him to do would be to consult with an attorney ASAP.

They may come back b/c they can. You cannot stop the process at this point. If there's an arrest and you don't sign anything or cooperate, it is tough to move the case forward! Joseph A. If you previously signed a sworn statement indicating that he did something that he didn't do, filing a false statement you should not admit to such as you are admitting to a crime. Lawyer up! You don't have to speak to the police without a lawyer. And yes your refusal to be cooperative would make it almost impossible to move forward with the case.
