Can a traffic fine be doubled for a safe corridor if no sign is posted telling you of the safe corridor?

I was recently slapped with a $140 ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a red light before turning right. The video from the red light camera clearly shows this, so I will not try and fight it. However, the fine was $140 and not $70 because it was in a safe corridor. But no sign was posted telling me I was in a safe corridor! I have photos of each and every road sign from where I leave my house to the site of the ticket, and there is not one sign mentioning a safe corridor! It is, however, posted on the NJ Dept. of Transportation website. Think I have a shot of getting the ticket down to $70 since i could not have been aware of the safe corridor?

You can do all that and it may work. But for $70. And to go down to Court and wait in Woodbridge for hours until Judge Robbins, Morse or Toth hit the bench. And then get $30 court costs because you did not pay straight up. Your call.

Evaluating someone's chances of winning a case are often impossible. You have a strong argument, but that does not mean that you will necessarily win.

You may have some success in asking the Prosecutor to reduce the ticket based upon no signs being present that you were in a safe corridor. You may want to show him the photos that you have taken and to see what can be worked out. I would recommend that you consult an attorney who may be able to assist you in getting the case resolved, if you can't resolve it by speaking to the Prosecutor directly.
