My husband's ex-wife is not following divorce decree re: expenses of house

My husband's ex-wife, according to the divorce decree is supposed to pay all utility bills on the house. The house has sat vacant for a couple of years, despite trying to get renters in the house. She let the utility bills run up into the hundreds of dollars and did not pay any of the utilities then let them get "cut off" due to non payment. My husband had to spent a couple thousand dollars in back payments and then pay deposits on all utilities to get them turned back on. Can we sue her for not following the divorce agreement and for the money we had to spend to get utilities back on and for what we have continued to pay on the utilities since she is supposed to keep them paid?

These comments are made for educational purposes only and do not constitute legal advice. No attorney-client relationship exists between us. You can file a motion with the divorce asking that she be appear in court and show cause why she should not be held in contempt for failing to make payments as ordered. You need to get an attorney to do this for you.

Find a good local family law attorney and have him or her review the details of the situation and the decree and then tell you whether he or she thinks it would be worthwhile to file an enforcement action against the ex.
