Will I be denied a passport for an unpaid traffic ticket in Texas?

In March 2003, I was visiting a friend on spring break (I lived in MI) in Ft. Hood & drove to Houston to pick up some of my deceased father's things. I was lost in a the middle of a corn field & was pulled over for speeding in an alleged school zone (63 in a 30...I hadn't seen anything but corn for MILES). I received a letter in May 2003 saying there was a warrant for my arrest & I owed $505. I never paid it & did not receive anything else from the court (Wallis Municipal). I renewed my license in MI for 6 yrs after that & moved to IL & got a new license with no issues. I want to apply for a passport to go on my honeymoon. Will I be denied the passport? Is this warrant still valid? I haven't heard anything from the court in 9 years.

Technically the US Passport may be issued to you, however, be on notice that an outstanding warrant for your arrest will be executed anywhere in the U.S. Besides, at any federal checkpoint your warrant may be already entered within the alert system and you will be arrested upon determining that you have a live warrant. Also, you have to realize that warrants have no expiration dates and it is in your best interest to retain a Texas criminal attorney to quash your warrant than live under the inevitable reality of getting arrested for an outstanding warrant.

You'll get the passport. Warrants, however, don't just simply go away with the passage of time. If there is an active warrant you can be arrested anywhere at any time. This includes when you try to get back into the country. It's no fun being detained on your way back from your honeymoon. I suggest you contact the court and take care of this ASAP.

You will get a passport but can be detained on the warrant.
