Under the right circumstances, you must identify yourself to a police officer, and failure to do so could mean a minor criminal charge.
However, identifying yourself is as simple as providing an identification card, like a drivers license or State issued ID card. These ID's do not have your social security number on them.
If the officer suspects that your ID is false, he may ask for more information from you such as your ssn, but I would not think you must answer further questions unless you want to.

It is very common to see arrest citations containing a defendant's social security number in my jurisdiction in state court. The pretrial service officer runs your info and gathers your ss# when running your prior criminal record after arrest.
In federal court all filings are required to redact your ss# from the public record in the Western District of KY.
Having said that, I know of no KY law that REQUIRES that you provide your social security number to law enforcement. You are required to have a KY drivers license in operating a motor vehicle on the roads of KY. But, as you know, your social security number is not on your drivers license.
