when i was 17 i took money from a business i worked for. I was told that if i returned the money there would be no charges filed against me . That was back in 2007 and i returned every penny the next day. Well, since then i have been fingerprinted, been on traffic probation, been in govt background and employment background checks and nothing ever showed up. last week i was arrested on a warrent i went to the place of employment and they said they didnt file any charges against me and will testify if needed that i returned the money. I went to the court house and was advised to speak with the prosecuting attourney. I do not defend that what i did wasnt wrong. But i did what it took to make it right and my life has dramatically changed for the better since this happened ... Help please...

Generally, there is a four year statute of limitations on felony crimes (with exceptions) and a two year statute of limitations on misdemeanor crimes. OCGA Section 17-3-1 is the area of law dealing with the statute of limitations on criminal offenses.

You can still be prosecuted even if the alleged victim doesn't want to prosecute. Don't talk to the prosecutor yourself. You need a lawyer. If you want to discuss, give me a call. I used to practice in Dalton and know every prosecutor and judge up there.
