If my business is in one city but I conduct all work in another, do I need 2 business licenses?

I have an LLC and its business address is located in the city of Walnut Creek. However, I don't live at that address and mainly just have mail delivered there. I live in San Francisco and conduct ALL of my business there. I keep reading that you only need to get a business license in the city where you conduct business from. So should I just get a business license for San Francisco? Or do I need to get one for Walnut Creek also since that's my registered business address?

To be certain, you should visit the respective cities' web pages (see links below) and learn their specific requirements. You should consult your own attorney to protect your legal rights.

One way to look at this is: Does Amazon need a business license in every town where it does business? Of course the answer is no. In most instances, it's best to have a license in the town where you are headquartered. The answer to this and other important small business questions can be found in a helpful manual written by NOLO press for about $25.00 at any major bookstore, assuming there are some still in business...
