How can I get gaurdianship of my nephew.

My sister, a single parent past a way 11 years ago. Father not in picture and no where to be found. Not even on birth certificate. My sister and nephew lived with my wife and I since my nephew was a year old. We helped my sister raise my nephew during this time. After my sister past we continued taking care and raising my nephew. We never applied for legal gaurdianship, however I am his beneficiary for the social security he receives from my late sister. I also have him under my health insurance. We have been taking care of him for 11 yrs and he is now 15 yrs old. I recently took him to get his drivers permit and they require a legal document showing that I am his legal gaurdian of which I do not have. I know I should have done this at the very beginning, but what can I do now?

The WA court website (link attached) has the form you need. Go to that search page, search for "guardianship petition". The first form in the search results should be the petition in Word format. File that with the Superior Court in your county. If you need help you will need to talk to an attorney as how to maneuver through this process is considered a practice of law and the court will not give advise on how to fill out or file the form.
