Do I have grounds for a lawsuit against the city/police department/district attorney?
I was arrested on a criminal charge in Oct. 07. The detectives at the time told me if I wrote a letter of "apology" to the DA, he would consider my remorse and drop the charges. So I did. I was not booked or charged with anything. One and a half years later, the DA re-issued the warrant for my arrest, had me arrested at my work, jailed for 27 hours, and my public defender ended up having the case thrown out on a "SERNA" technicality (a 1 year statute of limitations the DA had to file this case, which he exceeded). Subsequently, I lost my job and was caused a great deal of embarassment, humiliation, stress, and anxiety - all because of a mistake the DA made, issuing a warrant outside the bounds of the statute of limitations. Do I have grounds to sue the city/police/DA for what they've done?
