Can I travel abroad if my form I-94 has expired?

I have an E1 visa, which is current until October 2013. On the other hand I filed the I129 form to request an extension or new I94. While the case is still pending, according to the USCIS. the status of my request is at: (Request for Evidence/Response Review). My concern is, if I would be able to re-enter the U.S. if I traveled abroad for a few days, in this case Mexico? I would appreciate any feedback or information regarding this matter. Sincerely, Thank you very much.

Theoretically, you should be able to, but since you may have had an RFE in your pending case, that gives me reason to believe that there may be a problem. I would speak with your attorney who helped you with the E1 Visa.
