I moved in Jan. 1st and i didn't know when the lease was up. I decided i would move out this june but pay july's rent as well. The 4 roommates dont know when the lease is up but are on it. I just dont want to pay August's rent

It sounds to me like you are being more than fair and have given your roommates ample notice. In the absence of a written agreement, your argument is that you are a month to month tenant. You would therefore need to give them one month's notice, which you have done. You should be fine with this. James Frederick

Unfortunately, you can be sued for anything. However, if you were sued, it appears that your fellow tenants would not have a very strong case. As you note, you have signed no rental agreement. It is possible that you could be deemed a month-to-month tenant, however, you are being reasonable by paying an additional 30 days of rent. Just make sure you let your roommates know your plan. Good luck.

My colleagues are correct. All rights and responsibilities regarding real estate must be written. If you did not sign a lease, you are not liable for the lease. It is not your problem that they were careless and unwise. Sounds like a campus deal, when students sign stuff they don't understand and then call their parents when the problems occur. You are taking the high road here, and they have nothing to complain about. If they are going to sue you on a lease, they need a copy of what you signed to attach to the lawsuit, and if you didn't sign anything, they can't win.
