I was convicted of a dui in March 2006 and did nothing about it.

My dui was a misdemeanor in that I did not injur anyone when it happened. I would like to take care of this problem that hangs over my head and want to know the best way to go about it and an idea as to what I can expect as a sentence. Since my financial situation is at an all time low, I was wondering if just doing some jail time could be the quickest way to get this thing cleared up.
I cannot predict what will happen in your case but I can relate a client of mine had a similar situation and was able to clear things up over two years after the fact without too many consequences. They key is hiring an attorney who specializes in DUI cases and is well known in the local court. Good luck and do not delay any further.
You need to get back in court so contact your attorney if you had one for help with that. If you had not attorney or you had a public defender, contact their office for advice. If they will not help you contact the court clerk's office to see what you need to do to get back in court. If this is a first DUI in California the maximum sentence is six months in jail. Depending on the Judge, in most cases you are looking at having to serve your original sentence plus some extra days, possibly on a work program instead of jail. Your probation will probably be extended as well. You will not be able to "clear things up" until you do the DUI school and pay the fine.
I would encourage you to seek legal assistance, failing to complete your sentence as ordered by the court can result in you facing additional penalties and/or changes to the original sentence.
First, you should find out if you have a bench warrant, , if you do, you will need to get it recalled. Then you should determine whether you are facing a probation violation, if you are facing a probation violation you should look into having a lawyer help. A probation violation can add to the penalty you agreed to at the time you were originally sentenced, it may result in additional days of community service or a change from community service to actual custody.
Once, you are in court, whether you have a lawyer, or not, you can discuss changing the fine from money to extra jail time.
