I can only give you information for general educational purposes and suggest that you contact a local attorney to follow up for a better-informed response on which you may rely. Generally, a lien could not immediately be placed on the home unless your sister had signed a contract with the funeral home allowing for such a lien. However, if a suit that alleged she was liable for some money damage or sham transaction in the transfer were filed, there is a procedure in Tennessee by which an attorney might be able to have a lien placed on the property pending the outcome of the suit. That is a procedure that is a legal matter that would involve many more facts than I have available, so I cannot say that it is truly applicable to this situation. It is for this reason that I must insist that you contact a local attorney about this situation and discuss the facts more in depth than you have in this posting.
