My exwife wants to ruin my weekends by scheduling pointless activities for my child.

What can I do about my wife scheduling activities such as on Sat two hours of bowling and on Sun 30 minute swim lesson when our ten year old already knows how to swim. That is taking up my weekend when I have things planned for us. What should I do about this.

What you should do about this is hire an attorney to perhaps file a motion for enforcement. It seems a rather controlling attitude that she is exhibiting, perhaps too controlling.

Generally your Parenting Plan within or attached to your Final Judgment should have language regarding extra-curricular activities and how the parents will make those decisions. You should have a local attorney advise you as to what your Parenting Plan currently states and whether you may want to consider a Modification.

Well-written parenting plans or settlement agreements address this by prohibiting this kind of thing. Generally, you should not ruin your child's ongoing activities by refusing to take your child to practices or games (or swim meets) or classes on your timeshare, but I get the feeling that she is scheduling one-time or limited activities that you would not otherwise have agreed to. Sometimes, you just have to give in, like when your child wants to go to a birthday party for a friend who lives in your ex's neighborhood and your child or your ex has conferred with you in advance. But your timeshare is yours, and sometimes you just have to tell your child that you have things planned and you can't accomodate things your child's mother has scheduled, especially if those things are scheduled without consulting you before they are scheduled. Then tell the mother (in writing if it keeps happeneing) she needs to stay out of your timeshare because if she doesn't, you'll need to go back to court to have timeshare modified because it's hurting your relationship with your child when you look like the bad guy all the time. This all won't last long though. Kids grow up fast, and they get wise to what parents try to pull on each other. One day, your child will say, "Mom, why don't you ask Dad before you plan this stuff on his weekend?," and if your ex doesn't have a good answer, watch the whole, "I wanna go live with dad" conversation start.
