Can I return a new car less than 24 hours after I signed some paperwork - although I didn't have definite financing (Texas).

I wasn't given any of the paperwork. I was told that my pymt would be $712.00. I got buyers remorse and returned it. The dealership's manager had a fit and told me I couldn't return it. He said that they would drop it off in my driveway if I left it. I left the car anyway and I'm worried that I might be legally responsible for it. I didn't have final approval last night. All I was told is that they wouldn't let me take the car home if there wasn't a good chance of my being financed. What are me rights? Am I'm legally responsible for this car? I asked to see where in the paperwork it stated that I'm legally responsible for the auto and the Dir. of Finance said he didn't have it and I left the dealership without the car.

These comments are made for educational purposes only and do not constitute legal advice. No attorney-client relationship exists between us. There is no automatic right to rescind a car purchase no matter how fast you do it. There must be a reason for breaking the contract and avoiding legal claims against you. The fact that you were not given any of the paperwork may be a good indication of deceptive trade practices which could be used as a reason to break the contract. It is also possible that you won't qualify for financing, in which case, the dealer would come for the car anyway. You didn't mention the size of your down payment or trade-in. Don't leave those things on the table. If the financing fell through, you need to get your down payment and trade back.
