I was charged and arrested with solicitation of prostitution in st.paul,MN area. i have taken into police car to station/jail and fingerprinted 4 days back(10 fingers and they have taken photos also). i was released after 4 hrs. this is my first of this kind and never caught by Police. It all happened in a hotel where the cops set it up. The cops said I will get a summon for court in few weeks time. as far as i remember i have given money to the girl and exchanged some words and called through my phone. officer said it is their evidence. not sure they have taken video or pictures. I am on H1 visa and i am going to have POE/extention/GC problems in future because of arrest? ....looking for expert adive on my next steps.

Step one don't put this much detail in your question. Step 2 hire a defense attorney in the area you were arrested. Step 3. Don't talk to anyone, but your attorney about what happened.

I have handled many similar cases. The most important thing you can do is retain a good criminal defense lawyer to fight for you. People charged with prostitution crimes are genrally concerned about the public embarassment factor, and the effect of having a criminal conviction upon their future ability to get a good-paying job. For non-citizens (inlcuding permanent residents, or less), there is also an immigration law problem if convicted or a guilty plea to a "crime of moral turpitude" such as prostitution. More than one "crime of moral turpitude" can result in removal (deportation) proceedings. The next step is to find and hire a good criminal lawyer.
I agree with my colleagues. The short answer is retain a lawyer and don't speak to anyone but your lawyer about the case.
A good criminal defense attorney will listen to you, address all of your needs (including the issue of your H1 Visa), and try to get you a resolution that does not compromise your record or your future.
I offer free consults and would be happy to sit down with you to discuss your case in confidence.

Mr. Gallager's advice was good. Also, this case was undoubtedly from the Maplewood police prostitution sting from Backpages.com. I familiar w/this particular sting because they (Maplewood Police Dept.) do it every 6 to 9 months, and I have represented multiple people caught in it unfortunately. I can most likely get you a deal for no conviction, which will make things a lot easier w/Immigration (ICE). I offer a free initial consultation, call us or see www.KellerLawOffices.com
