Are severe depression and anxiety sufficient reason to postpone a Small Claims trial in California?

I am a defendant in a small claims case, but I am currently under doctor's care for severe depression and anxiety. Would I like be able to a postponement of a hearing until my medication starts taking hold? I am also going to try to work out a settlement with the plaintiff, but I want to have all the bases covered.

If you have a documented medical reason, it could be. You do have the right to request a continuance if you do so ten days before trial. It's on your paperwork.
