is h4 a sponsored visa. can my wife claim that i have signed and sponsored her visa for h4. i am on h1 visa. Also is h4 a legal immigrant? i have heard cases where h4 visa holders finds a job and changes to h1 or goes to f1 visa. is this legal to do or are they using the system?

H4 is not a sponsored visa, but rather it is a visa for the spouse and children of an H1. Your wife can file for one if her husband is an H1. Yes and H4 can change status, it is permissible. However one should not apply for an H4 visa if they do not intend to keep that status.

No. Not a sponsored visa. Not considered an immigrant visa but you may file to adjust staut under the visa.
