Wills under washington law, name disinherited heir, process to disinherit child
Anonymous2 views2 answers
if my mother left her estate to my daughters and my sister and left me out in the state of washington, is it correct that i was no mentioned as disenherited that i am entitled my 50%?
In WA, a testator may leave his or her property by Will to anyone he or she wants. There is no obligation to leave any property to anyone.
Two quirks, however:
1. Omitted Heirs.
If a testator makes a Will and later marries or has a child, and that person is not mentioned or provided for in the Will, he or she is entitled to receive what they would have received had the testator died intestate (ie, without a Will).

2. Family Award.
Regardless of the Will, a surviving spouse or child may be entitled to receive a family award, the amount of the basic award is $125,000, off the top of the estate. The requirements are complicated.
