Can I move out and not be stopped?

Child Custody 5 views 2 answers
I'm 17 years old, I turn 18 in 4 months. I go to school and I live with my grandparents but my mother has legal custody of me. My grandparents treat me like I am 12 and my mother is on drugs, so I don't want to move in with her. My grandparents threaten me and I want to move out so bad. I already have a place I can stay if I can move out, but my grandparents tell me I can't. My grandfather isn't my blood relative, he's my step-grandfather. I can't ask my mom or dad 'cause they're really bad on drugs. My grandparents won't let me get a job, I ask them constantly. What do you think about this?

In Alabama, 19 is the age of majority unless you file for emancipation with the court system. I would suggest that although your grandparents are older, they must care for you to have allowed you into their home and care during this time. Calm down, slow down and dont fight for independence so quickly. Getting out of the nest is appealing to you now, but the real world is tough. Relax and enjoy your last years with your grandparents if possible. When you can, go to college. Get a trade or do something to better yourself.
