Can a 22 year old be charged for having consensual sex with a 16 year old after her 17th birthday?

I was together with a 22 year old at the age of 16 and had consensual sex. My parents told me I could no longer have contact with him or they would press charges. When I turn 17 can I continue my relationship with him and not have the possibility of charges being pressed from our previous engagements? If not how long would I have to wait before being able to safely continue the relationship?

Your turning 17 does not absolve the criminal act he committed when you were 16. There is a 5 year statute of limitations for a felony and 2 years for a misdemeanor.

well, 17 is the age of consent, you can't legally consent before them. Of course you can continue your relationship, but what he does before you are 17 is potentially a problem for him. The possibility of charges, even though perhaps unlikely, will remain.

The age of consent in NY is 17. While he could get in trouble for any sex you had with him before you turn 17, once you turn 17 there aren't any ,egal impediments.
