Can i collect unemployment benefits while waiting for my long term disability benefits to be approved.

I am going to be terminated on 20th June due to my inability to return to work as I am disabled due to my back surgery. My employer is using the 6 month max. absence of leave from work provision from the employee handbook to get rid of me. I have already used 11 weeks of short term disability benefits and now applied for the long term disability benefits, so i was thinking that if i am being terminated or laid off and waiting for the long term disability benefits to get approved, can I apply for the unemployment benefits too!! Finally if in future I use all of my long term disability benefits can I still apply for the unemployment benefits I guess what i am trying to ask is about any kind of time frame restrictions on the filing of unemployment benefits Thank you very much!!

It sounds to me like you should be looking at filing for Social Security Disability and NOT unemployment. Something to consider! You can apply for Social Security while you are receiving STD or LTD. I would assume unemployment in your area is similar to that in Michigan requiring that you are "ready able and willing to work." That being said, if you are filing for benifits saying you cannot work it would be contrary to unemployement and more consistent with Social Security Disability. You will want to contact an attorney in Nevada to discuss the requirements of unemployment. Perhaps contacting a Social Security attorney in your area to discuss these benefits.
