Mean neighbor issue

Bankruptcy and Debt 2 views 3 answers
This neighbor parks directly across the street from my mother’s driveway making it difficult for her to pullout and my mother is 83. He owns the house he parks at but doesn't actually live there. He rents it out but he parks his car as far up as possible to be in directly across her. He actually lives next door to her and the street in front of that house is always empty. So it’s obviously being done purposely. She knows this because these ‘neighbors’ have a long history of being troublesome to her as as well as to many people on this street since the day they moved in. They have a long history of doing things do aggravate people. Is there is any kind of legal recourse she could take to stop him from doing it? They’re not the kind of people that can be reasoned with either.

Are they illegally parking? If YES, call the police. If NO, I don't think there is anything you can do to force them to park elsewhere.

Dear neighbors are mean people: I suggest you and your mother consult with a nearby attorney. Make sure you have tangible proof (photos are good) that the neighbor parks across the road in a manner intended to delay a senior citizen from exiting her home. Your lawyer may be able to determine whether there is a local parking ordinance that may help your mother. You may also consider that your mother may gain maneuverability with a smaller vehicle. The law has not found a remedy for the obnoxious neighbor. Perhaps you might decide to take command over the space directly across from your mother. Maybe you could park your vehicle there and deprive the neighbor of his need to be abusive to your mother. Your mother may also decide to park in the unused space at the neighbor's house. Good luck.

First talk to the neighbor no matter how mean. if this doesn't work, ask a lawyer to write a letter on "elder abuse." Not exactly on point, but if he is deliberately preventing your elderly mother from getting out of her home, it could be seen as a form of harassment. What if she has an emergency? If he has an alternative place to park, there's no reason for him to continue doing this. Also, do check the parking rules in your town. He may be in violation, esp. if he leaves his car there more than 72 hours. Good luck!
