Can I get a domestic partnership in Orlando, FL if I have a Civil Union from VT?

Florida does not recognize my same-sex Civil Union in VT, does that mean I can get a domestic partnership in FL with another person? I'd like to get my Civil Union from VT dissolved however I am unable to here in FL.

I believe when it comes to divorce, that Florida recognizes marriages from other states. In other words, you would get a divorce in Florida. For instance, GA still has common law marriages, but FL does not. If parties are common law married in GA and then move to FL, they have to get divorced here. There are appellate cases in Florida concerning these issues. However, if the partner did not move to FL with you, you need to get divorced in VT. Consult with a family attorney.

You can still simulate a marriage through a domestic partnership in Florida despite your current civil union in Vermont. You can get your civil union dissolved in Florida, but it is tricky and should not necessarily be done as a regular divorce process.
