If the judgement is recorded and properly renewed it is saleable and collectible.

Closed means that the case is final. It is something the Court Administrators notates to differentiate the closed cases from the active ones. It does not mean that you are free of collection risk. If your only income is retirement and social security, be sure to tell your bank that information now so that they can alert you if a garnishment is received. Keep some money in hand to prevent hardship and find a legal services of Florida attorney for help to claim an exemption in Court if you do get hit with a garnishment. Good luck.

The court might have closed the case for numerous reasons. Sometimes the case could be dismissed because the petitioner (a party who filed the lawsuit) is not moving the case forward. If the judgment was not acquired by the petitioner, then he will need to re-file the lawsuit again. In Florida, if the judgment was granted, there is a period of time during which a creditor can collect on a judgment. Once that period expires, the judgment might be renewed. I would suggest you to speak with an attorney who can look at the court docket to see what exactly happened in your lawsuit. Your inquiry describes a judgment against you, and that the litigation case in the court that granted the judgment, is completed and was closed. As my colleagues have suggested, should there be collection attempt of the judgment, you should be prepared for some disruption, if your bank account should be garnished, until you can prove the funds in the account are exempt from seizure. If your debts are overwhelming, you may wish to confer with an experienced bankruptcy attorney, because judgments are usually dischargeable in bankruptcy, which filing likely would prevent any disruption.
