It seems like you are asking about the "non bondable" designation. In most circumstances, a person will be held "non bondable" on a probation case if he is arrested on a new charge while still on probation. This gets a little confusing, because the court will typically set a bond for the new charge, while designating the probation case as "non bondable."
You do not want to post the bond on the new charge in these circumstances. If you do, he will still be held in the jail on the "non bondable" case, and to make things worse, he would no longer be receiving credit for the time he is serving for the case that bond has been posted. That is because he would technically not be held on that matter, once bond is posted.
Additionally, a person who is a legal U.S. resident can be held "non bondable" due to a hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Often they will place the ICE hold on a person, even if he is a legal permanent resident. They do this because they want to make sure that, if the person is convicted of the state charges, he will be transported to the immigration courts for further proceedings to determine if he will be allowed to keep his status as a permanent resident.
I hope this was helpful. God bless you!
You and he need to talk to his attorney, which undoubtedly he has by now. If not you/he need to consult one directly to learn all of the options. We cannot answer specific questions like what you pose here online without knowing many more details. Good luck.
