If you are not in a union or under contract, you can be fired for any reason that is not statutorily protected, even a totally idiotic one. If the underlying reason for your dismissal was your manager's insecurity, you don't have recourse. However, if the company believes you are a valuable employee, you may be able to go over your manager's head to complain.
