If there was someone in my back yard and a struggle breaks out would the make my day law count, and for the detached garage if there was someone in my detached garage committing a crime would the make my day law count

Not normally. The make my day law really has to do with someone trying to enter your house. You might have self defense arguments though. I am not sure what you did (pull a gun on someone?) in order to be asking about the make my day law.
