I have heard yes and no. If you are allowed is there ever a place where you cannot video tape police?

First, the law across the country is unsettled on this issue, so there is no consistency in the statutes or case law yet. Therefore, tread carefully. Second, everyone has a reasonable expectation of privacy, though only under certain circumstances, depending in part on the following: (1) location of the parties; (2) circumstances surrounding the police-citizen encounter; (3) whether filming is prohibited, regardless of who is involved (e.g., inside a courthouse, at a law enforcement facility, etc.); (4) whether the filming begins to cross the line between legitimate filming and outright harassment; and (5) other factors. Third, if you do engage in filming of law enforcement in Georgia (or anywhere else in this country), do not continue to do so esp. on a public street, a public sidewalk, etc., if there is a legitimate order to cease and desist and/or if it looks like the situation is about to escalate into a confrontation that no one would want. The main reason for this cautionary warning is because there have been news reports about some people possibly continuing to film even when ordered (legitimately or otherwise) to stop and a confrontation erupts that may cause legitimate charges to then be brought against the filmer (e.g., obstruction, assault of an officer, etc.), and/or the filmers act like thugs during the encounter. Therefore, tread carefully and wisely.
