Will this show up on background checks?

I was 19 when I was caught shoplifting about $9 worth of merchandise at Meijer. I was brought into the back and was talked to by loss prevention. I'm pretty sure they took my fingerprints and name/address. A cop showed up later. No charges were pressed and they had me sign a paper saying that I wouldn't come back. They also had me pay a civil demand fine of $200 which i did pay by check a few weeks later. About a week after the incident, my school dean sent me a letter saying he wanted to talk to me about it because this was very out of character for me. I just want to know if this will show up on background checks because I want to work in the criminal justice system.

It is very likely to show up in some background checks. What triggered the entry into the database was your naive payment of the civil demand.

Only way to know for sure is to order your rap sheet from the Illinois state police. Cookcountynotguilty.com
