along with the children from his 4 children. The acres my grandfather left consisted of approx. 84 acres in the Parish of Tensas, LA. There is a portion of the land (19 acres) that is being leased for agricultural purpose. One of the grandchildren living in LA was established by her father (executor & son of our grandfather) to act as landlord upon his death which she has been doing for many years. She no longer wants to be responsible for it and we don't have another family member to act as an executor. What do you suggest we do? We would definitely need an attorney from the state of LA (since the laws are so different). Should we establish an Estate Escrow Acct or can we have an attorney office to manage this, and if so, what apprx. is the cost?
You should post your question in in the State of Louisiana, as the laws there are radically different from those in California, being largely the French Napoleonic Code brought there when Louisiana was still owned by France before being purchased from Napoleon I.
Nobody in California can answer your question for you, unless they are also licensed in Louisiana.
This is certainly something that a lawyer could do, or the court could appoint a public administrator to handle it for you. As far as cost, it will depend on the person that is appointed and the amount of work involved. This would be one of the things you would want to discuss up front with an attorney, if you intend to go that route.

Both attorneys offer sound advice. The point here is that you need to sit down with an estate attorney preferably an LA estate attorney to discuss your options first hand. This forum cannot give you what you need which is actual and detailed advice and a course of action based on all the facts and people involved.
Hope this helps.

You need to consult with an attorney in Louisiana about obtaining appointment of a successor executor, if the property has not yet been distributed from the estate. The cost may be set by statute in Louisiana.
