How do I respond to a custody petition in Bexar County, TX?

My son's paternal grandmother filed for emergency custody. I don't know what needs to be in my response. Is it just a letter? Do I need to file my own petition for custody? How do I get anything filed at all from another state?

If the child is located in Texas, and you are not, it will be very difficult for you to get custody of the child (as Texas is the home state). I am assuming your son is not in a position to fight the matter himself, which would be best. Whether or not you even have the legal standing to contest what the grandmother is doing is questionable. You need to have the paperwork reviewed by an attorney in Texas to find out what options, if any, you have available.

It is not clear from your question whether you are the parent or the paternal grandparent. I am reading it as your son is a child in Texas and you just learned that his grandmother is filing for custody, which could mean that the child was placed in protective custody or some other issue occurred with his mother. If so, you need to seek an attorney in that county immediately if you wish to request custody. This assumes that Texas has jurisdiction in the first instance.
