In terms of severance package, does it usually make a difference if I quit or get fired? Or usually "fired" gets you more?

I am considering quitting, but I wonder if that will hurt my severance package. For example, I would like to ask for 6 months of health insurance. Would you think it would make a difference if I quit in terms of my negotiation bargain power? I am afraid they will say: Hey, since you are quitting you don't get anything. :( I KNOW I DO NOT GET UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. I AM NOT CONSIDERING OR WORRYING ABOUT THAT.

Usually if you resign you get a severance package better than if you quit, in which you may get zero.

Generally, in Illinois unless you have a contract that says otherwise, and employer does not have to give severance. You may want to discuss how to separate with a lawyer to help you work through the separation to try to achieve your goals.
