Hypothetically, is it illegal to create fake accounts to receive referral credits on websites?

If a person named Bob created fake accounts A, B, and C that were referred off one another, Then he proceeded to purchased the deal on Account A. Account B is given a referral credit by the site. He then uses the credit on B to purchase the deal again, and Account C is now given a credit by the website. Is this illegal? If the TOS of the site does not mention anything about creating your own referrals, and the only thing it mentions is that you cannot "impersonate another user". Is there any legal recourse the site can take on Bob? What is Bob's best option if the site did pursue legal action?

To me this is clearly a fraud. Creating fake accounts is per se a fraudulent activity coupled by the aim of obtaining something (credits) that the user is not entitled to obtain (there may be larceny and/or false pretenses involved). I would refrain to go down this road. Please consult an attorney.

Blatant fraud. Hypothecally, Bob's cellmate already has Bob's name tatooed on his arm. As to the site, there may be a question of damages. It seems like a matter that would be referred to the police.

do NOT create fraudulent accounts. It can devastate you if discovered. on a side note, if an accounf t is put in the name of ones child or ward, it is a second degree felony and a level 9 (mandatory prison with no record)
