Can I legally request a business owner to stop posting false comments on me in retaliation for posting a negative review?

I disagreed with changes made on a reservation I had at a local restaurant and informed the server who happened to be the owner's daughter. The owner then got my phone number from when I made my reservation and called and left a message rudely scolding me for being unhappy with the service. I then posted a review on the restaurant's horrible treatment of calling me at home to insult me for even questioning their service. Now the owner has gone on facebook and is making false allegations of what occurred and asking people to go to the review site to read my review and challenge it. I feel within my rights as a paying customer to voice an opinion, but am horrified that they have used social network to make false statements of what actually occurred. This is a small town and my name is used.
You certainly have a right to provide your truthful review. If the owner is making false claims about you, you can go after him/her for defamation. At a minimum, I would send a letter from your attorney demanding it stop. Good luck.
I agree with Atty Moore that the best step is a letter from your attorney. Unfortunate that you could not just ask to see the owner about the issue at the time of your upset, instead of complaining about it to the entire world through the Internet. Now, there is division in your small town for all the world to see. How embarassing for you both.
You have a righty to write a review such as Yelp. The owner can write legitimate response to defend the review.
However,it may get tricky as to how far the owner can go with it. If you are named personally or placed in false light, you may have an invasion of privacy claim.
It amy be a good idea for you to write a letter by an attorney to take down the post about you or face legal action.Good Luck
