I am of the Jewish faith and I was present when two of my bosses made a comment that I was quite offended by. The other day two of my bosses were discussing in the hall way what kind of deal they got when they purchased an air conditioner. They made a comment " boy, Frank can really jew them down, he is really good at jewing prices." I told them I was quite discusted at thier comment and they just said that they ment it as a compliment, how is that a compliment? I want to know if there is anything I can do legally against them for this vulgar behavior?!

Your legal remedy is to file a religious discrimination complaint with the federal agency Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). See www.eeoc.gov. There are some other requirements such as a number of employees and a time limit that must be met. As a practical matter you may want to step back and think about this, especailly in this economy. Yes, what they said could be construed as a religious slur, but if this is the first slur you may want to give the employer an opportunity to change their conduct out of respect for your valid opinion. You voiced your opinion which was the absolute correct thing to do, now see if they will abide by your wishes. In the real world of employment litigation, employers are never happy when a current employee files a discrimination complaint with the Feds. The response to the Federal Agency can cost the employer thousands of dollars in addition to time required to produce documents and evidence. It is not unusal for an employer who has been reported to the EEOC to find a legitimate way to get rid of the complaining employee. At that point the employee then files an addition complaint of retaliation with the EEOC. (There is no such thing in employment law as a restraining order to stop an employer from terminating an employee.) The entire complaint can then go into the Federal District Courts, which can be very expensive for both sides.
