Wages cannot be garnished in Pennsylvania for credit card debt. If you are being pursued by out-of-state creditors, you should strongly consider sitting down with a local attorney—there are strong protections in place for debtors that it sounds like your creditors may be infringing.

I agree with may colleague. Wage garnishment is not available in PA for most consumer debt. (There are some circumstances when a Pennsylvania court may enforce a wage garnishment order from another state, but generally not for this type of debt.) Creditors do have some options in PA. An out-of-state creditor can domesticate a judgment in PA and enforce it under PA law. For example, a judgment creditor can levy a bank account and may seek to levy personal property. However, married couples in PA typically hold their joint property as "tenants by the entireties", which limits the ability of most creditors of one spouse from executing against their joint property (including real property and personal property, such as a vehicle or bank account). How much protection the law affords you depends upon the facts of your case. Therefore, you should speak with an attorney as soon as possible.

I agree with my colleagues. They cannot garnish your wages in PA except for landlord-tenant debt and if the Judgment is only against you your jointly owned property is protected under tenants by the entireties. If they try to domesticate the Judgment in PA hire an experienced Debt Settlement Attorney. The threats of legal action that they know they cannot do may also be an FDCPA violation.
