Can I install a security camera above my apartment door without notifying the manager or the property management company?

I live in 14 unit apartment building and per California law no manager is necessary to reside on premises. There are tenants who are subleasing and management have no proof because the tenants lie, and other tenants don't want to get involved for fear of retaliation. There are people running in and out of this unit next to me 24/7 and it is truly a problem. I want to install a security system above my door. I've investigated and saw the system I want. It is tamper proof, weather proof; costly, but I'm just tired. If I install a camera they will be less likely to have chaos in the complex.

Dear tenant, You can install it if you have the permission of the landlord. Otherwise, no. The landlord has a responsibility, though, to evict the neighbors if they are creating a disturbance. You and your neighbors could sue the landlord to "abate the nuisance" by evicting the tenants. Fran Campbell
