I was charged with L/S of an accident involving damage in a parking lot. Only damage was paint transfer, can I fight this?

I was backing out of parking lot when other driver ran stop sign and almost hit my car. I was angry and followed the car to the next lane in parking lot. We were both angry and the other car deliberatly slammed brakes on to cause me to rear end his car. I was going about 5 mph. He got out of the car and I felt a little intimidated as well as feeling like he was trying to "trap" me into an accident. I left the scene. The police were called and I went back to the scene to address the situation. I would like to fight the ticket in court because I believe there was no damage except paint transfer. I also feel like I was trapped into the accident. I did not get a ticket for following too closely which I would not have protested. Is this something I should fight or just pay the diversion fine?
Before going to court you need to talk with a local criminal defense or traffic law attorney. Do not try to do this on your own without talking to a lawyer.
Good luck.
Generally speaking, leaving the scene of an accident means leaving without providing any contact information for yourself. If you gave the other driver some contact information you should have little to worry about. If you simply left without talking to anyone that would be the worst case. Sounds like you may be somewhere in the middle as you talked to the other driver and the police contacted you. Seek the help of a criminal defense attorney.
