Can spousal alimony payments be garnished by debt collectors on unsecured credit card debt after a default judgement?

I've seen conflicting posts from attorneys (in various different states) on this point with some claiming spousal alimony payments are exempt for this action. I need a clear yes/no answer as it pertains to Washington state. Thanks.

Read Title 6 of the Revised Code of Washington: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?Cite=6. Cases interpreting the statutory provisions can be read on the MRSC.org website.

I agree with the previous answer and Washington has spousal maintenance and not alimony. The money may not be exempt and should be deposited with caution, collectors will garnish first and then you will have to prove the exemption.

Alimony is not exempt from garnishment in WA state. In fact, I represented a creditor and we garnished the former spouse who was paying the alimony, such that the alimony was paid into the court monthly and then paid out to my client, to the extent of about $10,000.
