The crimes are slightly different in that they describe different types of trespassing; both subdivisions of Penal Code section 602 are misdemeanors. The charges the police cited you on are simply their assessment of the evidence at that time. It is ultimately the prosecutor who decides what to charge after reading the police investigation.
Trespassing is:
[Pen Code sec 602(k)]: Entering any lands, whether unenclosed or enclosed by fence, for the purpose of injuring any property or property rights or with the intention of interfering with, obstructing, or injuring any lawful business or occupation carried on by the owner of the land, the owner's agent, or by the person in lawful possession.
[Pen Code sec 602(m)]: ntering and occupying real property or structures of any kind without the consent of the owner, the owner's agent, or the person in lawful possession.
The prosecutor feels they can prove the one offense more than the offense written by the police officer. California trespass laws are in many ways outdated and terrible. Most attorneys and prosecutors do not really understand which one should be filed in which case and many of them are hard to prove.

PC 602m is easier to prove because there is no intent requirement to be proved. I would expect a fine and a stay away order from the location trespassed. There may also be informal probation for 1 to 3 years. A lawyer can discuss the facts with you and give advice on how best to proceed.
