Can Landlord evict me for having dogs after having them for 5 years and everyone in the building has pets.

My landlord came by today and said my boyfriend and I have to give up our dogs or move. His excuse is because we have 2 dogs the rest of the tenants want more animals. My dogs are quiet and the neighbors like them. Everyone in my building has 2 or more animals, some have 3 dogs, but for some reason he decided we are the ones who have to get rid of our dogs. Also he told us to be out in 2 weeks. I don't think that is legal. We offered him a larger security deposit and more rent but he said no. Then after going round and round he said we had to be out in 30 days. Then he said not to pay rent for the month which we already did. I think this all sounds fishy. We have lived there 5 years without incident and have always paid rent on time. The lease was up years ago and we have no written one
