DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO CONTACT THE POLICE OFFICER! If you want to plea bargain your best shot is with an attorney. Even without one, the Police in Suffolk do not offer deals on their own. In fact, in parts of Suffolk, at this point there are places in Suffolk which cannot be plead down at all vut require trials. I stress at this point.

You will compromise your case by contacting the officer, not by contacting a lawyer.

You could mess things up yes. Do some people have "the magic touch" and are able to get a cop to do anything for them? yes. about 10 people in the whole world can do that. The rest of the population get the treatment cops are trained to provide, interrogation, trickery, and a full prosecution. You may also save yourself a lot of time and aggravation.

No you will HELP your case by retaining counsel to represent you. You need an attorney on your side to advocate for you and to have your court appearance waived. Just because he gave you the ticket does not mean you are guilty and you need a professional to represent you. It will save you money by preventing an insurance increase.

You should not contact the officer. Anything you say can and will be used agaisnt you in court. IN addition, if the officer misinterprets what you say you could be arrested for bribery or tampering with a witness. Let a lawyer do your talking. Retain a local criminal court or traffic court attorney.
