How can someone receive a waiver of probation fees?

I was told that if you are under the poverty level and/or have no income you could petition to have your monthly probation cost waived. Is this correct and could you tell me where I could access the application?

You should contact your probation officer about this. If you are unable to pay the probation fees, often you can do community service. You will need to do a specific hours of service each month to cover your supervision fees. You will need to have your matter brought before a judge to modify the conditions of your probation. The mere fact that you have been deemed indigent does not automatically result in a wavier of the probation fees. Judges have the discretion to remit probation fees entirely or convert the probation fee into an equivalent amount of community service (4 hours/month for unsupervised probation, 8 hours/month for supervised probation). If you are physically disabled and therefore cannot do community service, bring in proof of your disability, i.e. a letter from a doctor, medical records, documents showing you receive SSDI. Judges will also suspend probation fees if you are engaged in say, a drug treatment program and you can't work or do community service.
