Confirm that your landlord is not sick or away. Send notice along with rent money order, via certified mail return receipt requested. Don't worry about the rent being a little late, you tried to pay and have never been late before. If you follow the above steps then, even in the very unlikely scenario that this ends up in court, you should be ok.
